Open in App
Solution

Introduction:

Decomposition is the process of breaking down complex organic matter into simpler substances like carbon dioxide, minerals, etc

Factors affecting decomposition:

The factors that affect decomposition are as follows:-
  • Temperature- Temperature of 25 and more increases. decomposition. Lower temperature impedes decomposition.
  • Moisture - It is essential for decomposition.
  • Composition- Detritus rich in lignin and cellulose decompose slowly as compared to those rich in water-soluble substances.
  • Aerobic conditions- Decomposition requires oxygen.

Decomposition in tropics:

Tropics have hot and humid climates which favor decomposition. Hence, the tropics have a faster rate of decomposition
