Given object is a die and the shape of a die is a cube.

We know that cross-section is the shape obtained by the intersection of a solid object with a plane.

(a) In a horizontal cross-section, a plane cuts the solid shape in the horizontal direction which is parallel to its base.

When we give a horizontal cut to the die, we get a square-shaped cross-section as shown below:

(b) In a vertical cross-section, a plane cuts the solid shape in the vertical direction which is perpendicular to its base.

When we give a vertical cut to the die, we get a square-shaped cross-section as shown below:
