Dear Student,
Both Mahatma Gandhi and Shaukat Ali travelled to the country to muster support and to make people aware about its objectives.
Gandhiji thus proposed that the movement should unfold in the following stages, which also defined its programmes:
i. It should begin with the surrender of titles awarded by the government.
ii. Then a boycott of civil services, army, police, courts and legislative councils, schools and foreign goods.
iii. And in case, the government used repression, a full disobedience campaign would be launched.
iv. Methods like ,surrender of titles, boycott of schools and colleges, resignation of membership from local bodies were adopted, boycott of council elections, promotion of Khadi were adopted in towns.
v. Movement gradually spread in the countryside with participation of peasants, tribals and plantation workers.
