Solution

Millikan:

RA Millikan's developed a method for measuring the charge on electrons called the oil drop experiment.

Millikan's experiment:

  1. Using the experiment, he determined the charge of the electron be -1.602176×10-19C.
  2. Oil droplet mass was measured by Millikan oil-drop method.
  3. According to this method, the magnitude of the electric charge (q) on the droplets is equal to the integral multiple of the electrical charge (e): q=ne, where nis1,2,,3,........
  4. In measuring the electrical charge, the forces on the oil droplets are gravitational, electrostatic, and viscous.
