  2. One chromosome contains DNA which is made up of many genes.
  3. Each gene contains a set of instructions for a protein-coding or any particular function.

Functions of genes:

  1. Genes carry genetic information from the parent to the progeny.
  2. Genes control the functions of DNA and RNA.
  3. Genes have a set of instructions for each function.
  4. Genes have specific codes for the production of each protein.

Example:

  1. Globin gene contains a set of codes for the production of haemoglobin.
  2. Thus, the globin gene instructs for the production of haemoglobin.
