Golgi bodies:
- Golgi bodies are also known as Golgi apparatus or Golgi complex.
- Golgi bodies are found in eukaryotic cells present just beside the nucleus.
- Golgi bodies have 5 to 8 cup-shaped series of compartments known as cisternae.
- Golgi bodies are referred to as the post office of the cell.
Functions of Golgi bodies:
- Golgi bodies secrete and pack the proteins after receiving them from the endoplasmic reticulum.
- Golgi bodies help in the transportation of lipids.
- Golgi bodies help in the formation of lysosomes.
- Golgi bodies produce sphingomyelin, glycolipids, etc.
- Golgi bodies also produce a complex polysaccharide required for making the cell wall.
