Oxidative phosphorylation:
It is referred to as the final step in cellular respiration occurring inside the mitochondria.
It is connected to the electron transport chain. The electron transport system is located at the inner mitochondrial membrane.
The electrons are transferred from one member of the transport chain to another via a series of redox reactions taking place.
Photophosphorylation:
It is said to be the process of utilizing light energy obtained by photosynthesis to convert ADP(Adenosine Diphosphate) to ATP(Adenosine Triphosphate).
It is a way of synthesizing energy-rich ATP molecules by transferring the phosphate group into an ADP molecule in the presence of light.
Common between oxidative phosphorylation and photophosphorylation:
In both the processes i.e. oxidative phosphorylation and photophosphorylation, ATP synthesis is linked to the development of proton gradient across the membrane by the enzyme ATP synthase.
The electron transport system involved in both the processes is present in the thylakoid and inner mitochondrial membrane.
