1 The heat capacity of a body is the quantity of energy needed to cause its temperature to change by 1°C. Therefore, the units of heat capacity are J°C-1 or JK-1 . So when we say that the specific heat capacity of a body is 50 J, this means the this much heat is required to raise its temperature by 1 degree.
2 The specific heat capacity of a substance is the quantity of energy needed to change the temperature of 1kg of the substance by 1°C.
Specific heat capacity of copper is 0.4, this means this much heat is required to raise the temperature of 1kg of copper by 1 degree.
