Question

What do we call the gravitational force between the earth and an object?

Open in App
Solution

Gravitational force:

  1. The weight of an object is the gravitational force between it and the earth.
  2. The force of gravity acting on a body is measured by weight.
  3. The weight formula is W=mg. Here m is mass of the body and g is the gravitational acceleration.
  4. Because weight is a force, Its SI unit is also the same as that of force; Newton is the SI unit of weight (N).
  5. Weight can be nil. If no gravity acts on an object in space, its weight becomes zero.
  6. Weight is a vector quantity.
  7. It has magnitude and is aimed at the centre of the Earth.
