Angle of inclination is the angle made with horizontal by compass needle of a vertically held compass. This angle varies at different points on the earth's surface. Positive values of inclination indicates that magnetic field of the earth is pointing downward, into the earth.

The value measurement instrument is dip circle.

1) At poles - dip is maximum.

2) At the equator the magnetic field is parallel and dip angle minimum.

3) Horizontal component of magnetic field $B_H$

$\delta$ is angle of inclination.
