Dear Student,
To explain the contiguous zone of India, we must first explain territorial waters. The territorial waters of India or any other country is that belt of coastal water that extends 12 nautical miles (22 kilometres) from the coast. Territorial waters are regarded as sovereign territory of a country.
The contiguous zone is a further stretch of water extending beyond the territorial waters for 24 nautical miles (44.4 km) over which a country can exert limited authority for preventing crime and other challenges to its territorial waters.
Regards.
