Kala azar also known as leishmaniasis is a chronic and fatal parasitic disease caused by the parasite Leishmania donovani.
It is transmitted by sandflies. It affects the internal visceral organs like liver, spleen, bone marrow, lymph nodes etc.
Some of the symptoms are:
1) Fever
2) Loss of appetite
3) Fatigue
4) Enlargement of liver, spleen and lymph nodes.
5) It increases the risk of secondary infections.
