Polarisation in politics means the division of people along sectarian lines on the basis of religion, language, caste or some such social factor. Polarisation happens when politicians seek to obtain vote from one particular group by portraying the interests of that group as being threatened by members of other groups. By doing so, politicians create antagonistic feelings among different communities and try to obtain votes from the community that it favours.
