Radical:

A group of atoms(having some negative or positive charges on them) which can retain its identity in series of chemical reactions is called radical.

Examples:(1)Ammonium is a radical having formula ${\left[{\mathrm{NH}}_4\right]}^{+}$.

(2)Carbonate is a radical having formula ${\left[{\mathrm{CO}}_3\right]}^{2-}$.
