Reflex actions are sudden, involuntary reactions of the body in response to stimuli. They occur without the involvement of the conscious areas of the brain. Reflex actions are under the control of the spinal cord.

• Sudden jerky withdrawal of hand or leg when pricked by a pin.

• Knees jerk in response to a blow or someone stamping the leg.
