Solution

Spore:

  1. A spore is a diploid reproductive cell which is capable of developing into a new individual without fusion with another reproductive cell.
  2. Spores are not to be confused with gametes as gametes are haploid and need to fuse with another gamete in order to form a diploid zygote.
  3. Many groups of fungi and algae use spores as their asexual mode of reproduction.
  4. These produce clonal offspring.

Sporangia:

  1. Sporangia are sac-like structures which store the spores.
  2. Clusters of sporangia, or sori, appear as brown spots and may or may not be present on all leaves.
  3. Some species have sori on all the leaves, while others have specialized leaves that bear the sori.
  4. As the sporangia dries out, they dehicise, releasing the spores into the wind.
  5. When these spores get favorable surroundings, they germinate into mature algae or fungi.
  6. In another sense, bacteria form spores to defend themselves from harsh environmental conditions.
  7. Bacterial spores have thick walls which can resist high temperatures, humidity, and other adverse environmental conditions.
