Solution

  1. When an object is dropped freely from a height its velocity changes continuously.
  2. This change in velocity produces acceleration in the object which is termed as acceleration due to gravity.
  3. The acceleration due to gravity is the acceleration produced by gravity whenever an object falls towards the earth.
  4. It is denoted by g.
  5. Its value is 9.8m/s2.

Hence, the acceleration produced by the Earth's gravity whenever an object falls towards the earth is called acceleration due to gravity.
