Mid-Day Meal’ or MDM scheme is a government initiative to provide a healthy meal at noontime for students in government schools. It was started on 15th August 1995. The Midday meal scheme aims as follows:

• Protect students from classroom hunger.
• Increase school enrolment and attendance.
• Improve socialisation among students.
• Address the issue of malnutrition.
