Emasculation is a plant hybridization technique that involves removing anthers from bisexual flowers without damaging the female reproductive part (pistil).
Plant breeders use emasculation in bisexual flowers to produce the desired plant variety by crossing a specific plant with the desired pollen grain.
The flowers are covered with a bag before they are open to eliminate the anthers and this step guarantees that only pollen grains from suitable varieties pollinate the flowers.
Breeders then dust the mature, viable, and stored pollen grains on the bagged stigma to allow artificial pollination and the production of the desired plant variety.
