1. The animals that directly swallow the food and then bring back the fermented food from the stomach to the mouth for chewing are ruminant animals.
2. The ruminant animals contain a ruminant stomach with four chambers and in such stomach the fermentation of plant-based food occurs.
   
3. Cows and buffaloes are examples of ruminant animals.
