What do you understand by the Panchayati Raj system?

The system of local governance at the three levels, i.e. district level, block level and village level is known as the Panchayati Raj system.
It is an assembly of five respected and wise elders who are chosen by all the adult members of the local community. These panchas or five elders headed by a sarpanch are responsible for solving all kinds of problems faced by the local people.
