Solution

  • Apartheid was the name of a system of racial discrimination unique to South Africa, which was imposed on black by the white Europeans. Under this system, the blacks were forbidden from living in white areas. They could work in white areas only if they had a permit. Trains, buses, taxis, hotels, hospitals, schools, colleges, libraries, cinema halls, theatres, beaches, swimming pools, public toilets etc were all separate for the whites and the blacks.
  • Nelson Mandela fought for the freedom rights and equality for black and white people. He fought vehemently against apartheid. He was tried for treason by the white South African Government and was later sentenced to life imprisonment in 1964.
