What do you understand by the term couple? State its effect. Give two examples in our daily life where couple is applied to turn a body.

The couple consists of two equal and opposite forces whose lines of action do not coincide. The forces have a turning effect or moment called a torque about an axis which is normal (perpendicular) to the plane of the forces.

E.g. turning a steering wheel, turning the key of a lock
