Solution
Definition: The process of splitting up a white beam into its seven constituent colors as it passes through a refracting medium is known as dispersion of light.
Diagrammatic representation:
Here, the sunlight which is a combination of seven colors is passing through a glass prism.
As the speed of different color lights is different in glass, each color light will deviate at different angles resulting in the formation of the spectrum of white light ( Violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red).
This is called dispersion of light.
The formation of a rainbow and the dispersion of light from a CD are examples of the dispersion of light.
