What do you understand by the term Sonar?

SONAR - Sonar is the short form of Sound Navigation and Ranging.

It is a device fitted in a ship to find the depth of the sea which is based on the principle of reflection of sound (echo). It is also used for locating underwater objects like reefs submarines shoal of fish etc

A sonar unit consists of an ultrasonic transmitter and receiver mounted on the bottom of a ship.
