To get things done in a country and to make myriads of decisions while running a country, there is a requirement for Government. Governments take decisions on behalf of the people of the country and implement those decisions for the overall welfare of the people. All countries on earth require Government, no country on earth can sustain itself without a Government.
Find below the list of things done by the Government which affects the daily life of the citizens of a country.
- Government runs many different types of social welfare programmes to help poor people in the country. The Social Welfare programmes are sometimes run by the Central Government or sometimes by the State Government. There are hundreds of social welfare schemes which are run by the Central and State Governments in India.
- The Government runs vital services in India such as the Railways, Postal Services etc, which are part and parcel of our daily life.
- Government decisions and policies on controlling the prices of goods and commodities affect the daily life of the common man.
- Government actions on building roads and other infrastructure affects the daily life of a common man.
- Government frames rules and regulations to maintain law and order in the society. Government is responsible for providing security to the common man. Governments protect the territorial integrity of a country by controlling the resources.
- Governments are responsible for maintaining peaceful relations with Governments of other countries. In this highly globalised world it is not possible to survive in isolation
- If there is a natural or man-made disaster in the country, the Governments are responsible for protecting and providing aid to the people, and providing various kinds of assistance for the affected people.
- To help in the smooth functioning of the country, there are Governments at 3 different levels – Local level, State Level, National Level.
