Typical elements: The third-period elements are known as typical elements because they represent the properties of their own group without any distinction. There are eight elements in the third period which are sodium, magnesium, aluminum, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, chlorine, and argon.
Normal elements: The elements belonging to the s-block and p- block of the periodic table are called the normal elements or main group elements.
Bridge elements: The elements belonging to the second period of the periodic table are called bridge elements because the elements of the 2nd period resemble in properties with elements of the third period. They show a diagonal relationship with the third-period elements. For example, Be (2nd period) and Al (3rd period), B (2nd period), and Si (3rd period) show diagonal relationships.
