Meiosis I ( Also called Reduction division): The sexual reproduction of an organism is caused by the fusion of male and female germ cells (sperm or egg cells).
During the prophase of meiosis-I, homologous chromosomes pair and cross to form a bivalent chromosome.
At a later stage, the divalent attaches to the mitotic spindle and the homologue separates, reducing the number of chromosomes in half.
After mating, homologous centromeres appear to be aligned.
