Question

What does 'escape in time' mean in context of hibernation?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

If certain animals are unable to migrate, they respond to unfavourable abiotic stress by "escaping in time".

This means that instead of migrating to some other place , they avoid unfavourable conditions by staying in the same place but by hiding or sleeping .

E.g. by going into long sleep as in the case of bears (HIBERNATION).

Thus they don't escape from the place as such, but also don't show any visible activity.
