Hypophysectomy:

  1. It is the surgical removal of the hypophysis(Pituitary gland).
  2. It is usually performed to remove tumors, especially tumors like craniopharyngioma.
  3. It is also used to treat Cushing's syndrome due to adenoma of the pituitary gland.
  4. Removing the pituitary gland through Hypophysectomy causes reproductive problems where the pituitary glands help the LH and FSH stimulation.
  5. Hypophysectomy leads to improper development of the body.
  6. It also leads to atrophy of adrenal and thyroid glands.
  7. After hypophysectomy, there will be a reduction in hormonal secretion and production.
