What does ionized mean?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Ionized or Ionization means the collision of atoms, ions, molecules, or subatomic particles by the action of electromagnetic radiation.
  2. In such a process the atom or molecule acquires the positive and negative charge due to the concurrence of chemical changes.
  3. In simpler words we can say that when a neutral atom acquires an electrical charge either negative or positive such species are called ionized species.
  4. Example: Sodium(Na) and Chloride(Cl) ions make Sodium chloride(NaCl) salts.
  5. In this process Sodium loses one ion to form(Na+) and that is gained by the Chloride to form the Chloride ion(Cl-) to form the salts.
  6. The chemical reaction is as follows.
    2Nas+Cl2g2NaCls
