Question

What does it means if two genes are linked?

Open in App
Solution

Linked genes

  1. Genes decalogue for certain proteins and impact an organism's characteristics.
  2. Genes are said to be linked when they're near together on the same chromosome.
  3. The presence of linked genes on distinct chromosomes is not possible.
  4. This means that alleles, or gene variants, that are formerly together on one chromosome are more likely to be inherited as a unit.
  5. Because they're physically close to one another on the same chromosome, linked genes are more likely to be inherited in a connected way.
  6. In other words, genes that are close together have a high possibility of being recombined than genes that are far apart.
