Question

What does it mean to be fully ionized?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The ionized ion or ionization occurs when a neutral atom, molecule, or compound loses or gains an electron, such species are called an ionized ion.
  2. For full ionization means the species has no bounded electrons to lose or gain.
  3. This can be understood with the help of Sodium chloride(NaCl) salt.
  4. The Sodium(Na) loses one of its electrons in a solution that is gained by the Chloride(Cl) to form a Chloride ion(Cl-).
  5. The complete formation of the Sodium ion with Chloride forms the salt, and such species are called ionic species.
  6. This salt is now completely ionized and has no charge left on it.
  7. The ionization reaction of Sodium chloride in an aqueous medium is as follows: Na+(aq)+Cl-(aq)NaClaq
