Question

What do parallel lines look like?

Open in App
Solution

Parallel Lines:

  • Parallel lines are those lines that do not intersect at any point even if extended to infinity.
  • The distance between all the points in the first line will be equal to the corresponding points in the other parallel lines.
  • The angle of inclination between the two parallel lines is equal to zero.
  • The slope of the parallel lines will be equal but the Y-intercept will be different.

If y=mx+c1 is the equation of a line, then the equation of a line parallel will be y=mx+c2, where x,yare coordinates, mis the slope and c1,c2 are the Y-intercepts of the first and second lines respectively.

If r and sare two parallel lines, it is denoted as rsand the same kind of arrow in the middle represents that the lines are parallel when a diagram is given.
