What does the absence of Reflex indicate?

Open in App
Solution

Reflex:

  1. It is a spontaneous and immediate response to an external stimulus that is mediated by the spinal cord.
  2. The decrease or absence of reflex indicates the injury in the reflex arc and other nerve disorders.
  3. When reflex responses are absent this could be a clue that the spinal cord, nerve root, peripheral nerve, or muscle has been damaged.
  4. When the reflex response is abnormal, it may be due to the disruption of the sensory (feeling) or motor (movement) nerves or both.
