What does the article 51 of directive principles of state policy direct the Indian state?

The Sapru Committee in 1945 suggested two categories of individual rights. First is justiciable and second the non-justiciable rights. The justiciable rights, are the Fundamental Rights, and the non-justiciable are the Directive Principles of State Policy.

Directive Principals of State Policy are ideals which are meant to be kept in mind by the state when it formulates policies and enacts laws. The various meanings of Directive Principles of State which are given below:

• An ‘instrument of instructions’ that are enumerated in the Government of India Act, 1935
• They also seek to establish economic and social democracy in the country
• These are not legally enforceable by the courts for their violation.

Article 51 is one among them and it directs the Indian state to promote the following things:

• These rights promote international peace and security and maintain just and honourable relations between nations
• They also foster respect for international law and treaty obligations
• They encourage settlement of international disputes by arbitration
