What does the mitochondria use to make ATP?

Open in App
Solution

Mitochondria:

  1. The mitochondria are small organelles floating freely throughout the cell.
  2. Mitochondria utilize oxygen to produce ATP in cellular respiration.
  3. These membrane-bound cell organelles synthesize the energy required for cellular activities or biochemical reactions.
  4. The final electron acceptor in the ETC-electron transport chain is an oxygen molecule.
  5. And this process is called oxidative phosphorylation.
  6. This process involves citric acid or Krebs cycle to produce a chemical called NADH.
  7. NADH is used by enzymes present in the mitochondrial inner membrane to generate adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
