Solution
The number of electrons that can be added or removed or exchanged by an atom is termed valence electrons.
Valency is the combining capacity of an atom.
For example, Sodium has 11 electrons. Its electronic configuration is 2,8,1.
So, it can lose one electron to become stable and its valence is 1.
