Chromosome:

  1. Chromosomes are thread-like structures of nucleic acids present in the nucleus which carry the information genes in all cells.
  2. Males and females have 23 pairs of chromosomes.
  3. The 23rd pair of chromosomes is the sex chromosome.

XY chromosome:

  1. The chromosomes that can determine the sex or gender of offspring are known as sex chromosomes.
  2. Females have XX sex chromosomes and males have XY sex chromosomes.
  3. Males will obtain one X chromosome from their mother and one Y chromosome from their father.

Thus, the XY chromosome is the sex chromosome in males.
