What enzyme is used for substrate level phosphorylation?

Open in App
Solution

Enzyme:

The proteins produced by living organisms to bring about certain metabolic and biochemical reactions in the body are known as enzymes.

Substrate level phosphorylation:

  1. Substrate level phosphorylation refers to the formation of ATP from ADP and a phosphorylated intermediate from ADP and inorganic phosphate, Pi.
  2. Thus, during phosphorylation ADP is converted to ATP.
  3. The substrate level phosphorylation occurs in the cytoplasm as well as mitochondria at the time of glycolysis and Krebs cycle, respectively.
  4. Substrate level phosphorylation is catalyzed by enzymes called phosphoglycerate kinase and pyruvate kinase.
