Question

What enzymes are used in DNA replication?

Open in App
Solution

DNA replication:

  1. DNA replication is a semiconservative process.
  2. Several enzymes and RNA molecules are utilized to create a new complementary daughter strand from a parental strand (template) in DNA replication.

Enzymes used in DNA replication:

  1. Primase (catalyze the synthesis of short RNA molecules used as primers for DNA polymerase)
  2. DNA polymerase I (for filling small DNA segments during replication and repair processes)
  3. DNA polymerase III (It is the main replicating enzyme)
  4. Helicase (separate double-stranded DNA into single strands allowing each strand to be copied)
  5. DNA gyrase (reduces supercoiling which builds up during DNA unwinding)
  6. DNA ligase (Joins the discontinuously synthesized fragments)
