The acrosome is present at the anterior end of the elongated nucleus in the sperm head as the cap-like structure.
It contains proteolytic enzymes such as hyaluronidase and acrosin that help the sperm in penetrating the ovum through the zona pellucida layer around the ovum and enter the cytoplasm of the ovum.
This facilitates the fusion of the nucleus of sperm and the ovum for fertilization.
