Solution

Some factors that played a role in the evolution of party system are

1. History: The Congress party has the dominant party in India since independence due to its role in the freedom movement.
2. International communist movement, which inspired the growth of the communist parties in India.
3. Rise of political consciousness of the lower caste people. Historically, lower caste people have been excluded from political power. After independence, there was an increase of political consciousness among the lower caste people which gave rise to political parties to represent them.
4. Rise of anti-brahminical sentiment, particularly Tamil Nadu, which gave rise to Dravidian parties.
5. Rise of regional consciousness in different parts of India which gave rise to regional parties.
