The type of biological material used in the production of manure forms two basis for classifying manure which are :
(i) Compost : It is the decomposed farm waste material, vegetable waste, animal refuse, domestic and sewage waste which are decomposed in pits
(ii) Green manure : It consists of plants that are mixed by ploughing into the soil. It gives nitrogen and phosphorus.
