Corpus luteum:

  1. In the female reproductive organ the hormone-secreting gland formed at the site of the follicle in an ovary is called the corpus luteum.
  2. The corpus luteum is formed by the graafian follicle after ovulation in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.
  3. After the release of the egg the graafian follicle ruptures and transforms into a yellow color body called corpus luteum.

Hormone release from corpus luteum:

  1. The hormone released from the corpus luteum is progesterone.
  2. It helps the uterus to grow without having contractions. It helps to maintain the pregnancy.
