Now in the figure one circle is completely filled.

In the second circle 2 parts are coloured/shaded out of the four parts so it will be represented as 2/4 which when reduced to lowest form gives 1/2

So the total shaded portion will be given by 1 + 1/4 = $1 \frac{1}{4}$
