Dry ice is actually solidified carbon dioxide. It is mainly used as a cooling agent. Unlike ordinary ice, it does not melt into a liquid but changes into CO2 gas. It is very cold and changes into gaseous state at and above -78.5 degree Celsius. That is it should be maintained at a temperature lower than -78.5 degree Celsius, else it would change into gaseous state. Hence, when we put dry ice outside, it will sublimate to give carbon dioxide gas.
