Partial oxidation of ethanol leads to the formation of ethanal. It is converted in presence of PCC i.e. pyridinium chloro chlorate in CH₂Cl₂ .PCC is a mild oxidising agent. The reaction is :
C₂H₅OH $\overset{P C C i n C H_{2} C l_{2}}{\to}$ CH₃CHO
