The process in which solvent travels from a region of lower solute concentration to a region of higher solute concentration through a semipermeable membrane is known as osmosis.
The semipermeable membrane separates the two solutions.
Types of osmosis: There are two types of osmosis:
Endosmosis:
When the solvent molecules move inside the cell because the solute concentration is higher inside the cell, osmosis is known as endosmosis.
During endosmosis, the cell becomes turgid.
Exosmosis:
When the solvent molecules move outside the cell because the solute concentration is higher outside the cell, osmosis is known as exosmosis.
