Question

What happens during systole?

Open in App
Solution

Systole:

  1. Before the systole, electrical signals travel from the AV node to the AV bundle also called as the bundle of His to the Purkinje fibers, which enables the instant spread of the electrical signals to all the portions of the ventricles.
  2. The electrical signals lead to the contraction of the ventricles.
  3. The systole begins with the closure of atrioventricular valves.
  4. The ventricles start contracting during systole.
  5. The semilunar valves open and the blood is pumped from the ventricles to the aorta.
  6. During systole, the blood pressure is the highest while during the diastole, it is the least.
